"Friends - I'm delighted to be able to tell you that the dates and venue for our forthcoming World Conference are now finalised.

"The Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyala (Chitrakoot University) has agreed to host our conference, to be held on February 8th/9th/10th 2010, and to play a major part in organising it. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gyanendra Singh is Chairman of our Organising Committee. Pilgrimage
A pilgrimage/excursion trip was arranged on 23rd December to Neemsar (Sitapur). It was a grand success. Members & families participated & enjoyed the trip. A second trip is being planned.

Blanket distribution
It gives me immense pleasure to inform you that the 82 (eighty two) woolen blankets have been distributed today by our members, to the persons living their life much below the poverty line, publicly in a program specially organized for this purpose at Lav-Kush Nagar, a jhuggi-jhopri locality situated on the banks of Kukrail Nala in this city (LUCKNOW). .

Winter has set-in fully here and the nights are getting colder day by day This timely help to the needy poor people who do not have proper shelters even, the blankets provided to them will surely give some respite to them from severity of cold. SOME MORE EVENTS ARE PLANNED IN 2009.

Jeevan Raj Lohani - Coordinator, U3As in Nepal

Tom Holloway, Secretary-General of World U3A visited Nepal on January 4-8, 2009 and facilitated one of the U3A meetings in Nepal. The Council of U3As in Nepal hosted the visit and the discussion program. The Council, registered under the government as an NGO, is planning to bring the issues of U3As in developing countries in near future. They also created the website http://u3anepal.org which we invite you to visit.

The atmosphere looks quite good for U3A in Nepal as we are working quite closely with government and are for now supported by two local organizations CPReC and RIDA.

On 30.11.2008 a meeting of Sangam U3A was organised at ICFAI National College, T B Sapru road, Civil Lines, Allahabad 3:30 p.m. Smt. Smita Bhutani, Chairperson welcomed the guests and members. Prof. R.N. Kapoor gave an overview about the U3A activities in other countries of the world and shared experiences/ memories of his recent visits to Singapur and Malasiya to participate U3A Conferences.

Sri R.K. Lal, Secretary informed members about the activities of Sangam U3A held in the past and proposed activities in near future. On the occasion, a nice talk was delivered by Dr. Mohd. Tariq, renowned Physiotherapist of city on "Psychological impact on Third Age people".

PRAYAG U3A Allahabad

The monthly meetings of prayagu3a are held on 1st monday of every month. The january get together was held on 3rd. There are 33 members and sixteen members were present.

Five members were felicitated for their birthday which falls in january.

Preeti kapoor held a 5 minute laughing session which every body enjoyed.

Dr.Agarwal and Dr.Meena Darbari gave tips on diet for elderly and ways to keep fit.

KALYANI U3A

Kalyani u3a is a group of women only. It has 26 members. The December meeting was held at DR.Meena's residence.

There was a lecture and demo. on PRANIC HEALING.

A discussion was held regarding how to improve status of women in society.

U3A Nepal are helping to set up U3A groups in Dhaka, Bangladesh with support from Dr. Shiva Raj Lohani, one of the members of Council of U3As in Nepal. This is early information and we hope to tell you more in the next issue of U3A Patrika.
